2014 Garden - week 1

We cleaned out the garden and added several loads of new dirt.

The lettuce is still going strong, but the leeks and half of the carrots had been trampled.
We put in three tomatoes, zucchini, yellow squash, and some Marigolds.

We started a bunch of seeds... gourds, snake gourds, apple gourds, sunflowers, okra, leeks, zinnias, and corn.

We cleaned everything out of the second garden, and put in some lettuce, squash and zucchini.
We will add some more vegetables in a few weeks.

We had to make a new fence to keep the house guest out.

We also planted a tomato & bell pepper on the other side of the yard.
We also plan to put gourds over here.

And another zucchini where the tree used to be...

new flowers

I wanted to put some geraniums in the yard in hopes they will keep the june bugs away.
I've had this holder forever, but we didn't have a pot to go in it.
Neighbor Tony to the rescue:) It was sitting in his shed and he let us have it.  Love it!

Pyrex finds in Vegas

I found quite a bit of Pyrex, but nothing great.  Either I already have it or I don't like the pattern.  The prices were great, and these I didn't have...
A Forest Fancies 401...

and a Woodland 401...

I use the 441's all the time. I like the Verde...

and the 441 to go with it.  I looked everywhere for the other two bowls, but they were nowhere to be found...

This Square Flower 501 looks like it's been through the dishwasher a few too many times, but there weren't any chips & we use this size all the time.  Also I need another one with some green color for Thanksgiving:)

I also found a sheet for sewing...I love the colors:)

And some melamine confetti bowls for MBC, since she likes the yellow one I have.

to work on the Vegas house...again... Part 1

Kitty and I went to Vegas to check on the house, get my hair cut and my taxes done.
It rained really hard for about the first hour of the drive. I even thought about turning around at one point, but slowly it started to clear up.
I love this sign at the gas station for UFO repair:)

I try to get a photo every time I drive by, and I can't ever get a good one.

There was a sand storm...

:) almost there

I knew the yard would need some work, but I was completely unprepared for what I saw...

The rock side of the front yard was covered in weeds.

My tree is dead.  I think it froze:(  It should be covered in tiny pink flowers this time of year.  MDH will have to cut it down .

Many weeds were thigh high.

The grass side of the front yard wasn't in as bad of shape...
(other than there is not any grass)

and the planter box still looks nice:)

the back yard...

Now I know why the house has not rented yet.

to work on the Vegas house...again...part 2

So I went to my hair appointment, and I couldn't do anything about the yard because it was raining.  Hard.  The wind was blowing.  It's been a long time since I've seen a storm like that in Vegas.
Saturday morning I met my friend to do a little thrifting, give him his Birthday present from last June and then to my tax appointment.  I like the sign on the office door...

While I was gone, some people came to look at the house.  I couldn't find Kitty when I got back.  She was hiding between the shower curtains.  Bad Kitty...

She had a nice break from "that dog"

and had fun exploring the house.

I got to work pulling weeds and killing weeds.  It still needs some more work, but it's much better...

I forgot to take a close up photo, but the grape vine is getting new leaves.

The cold weather got the palm trees too.  I could have trimmed a lot more fronds off, but I was out of trash bags, so that will have to wait until next trip.

The rose bush by the front door has one lonely flower...but it has thousands of buds, and should be covered in flowers when we go back in a few weeks:)

On the way back to LA, there was some snow on the mountains along Pearblossom highway:)
